Generic Learning Assessment
Generic Learning comprises of the following components.
Functional Skills
Functional Skills include English, Mathematics and ICT, and are required to be assessed throughout the completion of the Diploma. At present Functional Skills are assessed in different ways by different awarding bodies for the purposes of piloting a range of assessment approaches. Final decisions on the assessment of Functional Skills are expected to be made in 2010.
Project
Learners are required to elect a topic to study; complete a log to document the progress of their project; plan, research and carry out their project and prepare a presentation on the outcome. Learners’ performance in each of these stages will be marked by centre staff to produce an overall project grade which will be moderated by AQA-City & Guilds.
Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
PLTS are required to be recorded and there will be opportunities for recognising these within both Principal Learning and the Project.
Work Experience
Work experience may provide a vehicle for some assessment. However, work experience itself is not assessed or graded but its completion will need to be recorded in order for the Learner to obtain a Diploma.
