Creative and Media

Focusing on knowledge, skills and creativity, this Diploma enables learners to experience the wide variety of career paths encompassed by the media and creative arts. From graphic design and advertising to creative writing and computer games, the Diploma allows learners to bring their ideas to life through making, doing and performing, whilst also encouraging critical thinking and good communication skills.

The Creative and Media Diploma will focus on creative businesses and enterprises and firmly places creative work within a business context.

 Principal Learning

Principal Learning develops the knowledge, understanding and skills specific to each Line of Learning.

At Foundation level learners will:

  • investigate their local creative and media industries
  • explore ways in which creative ideas can be developed based on an initial stimulus
  • experiment with technologies and techniques to produce a creative outcome
  • use a variety of creative methods to explore alternative solutions to an industry brief

At Higher level learners will:

  • understand the nature, role and function of an organisation within the creative and media sector
  • understand the creative process within a commercial context
  • respond to a brief using creative ideas and production skills in two interlinked disciplines
  • explore the work of professionals in the creative and media industries
  • use a variety of creative methods to explore alternative solutions to an industry brief
  • work as part of a team to identify opportunities for making a creative input into the planning and organisation of an event or festival
  • develop creative outcomes and present them at organised events in liaison with clients or organisers

At Advanced level learners will:

  • develop a response to a brief which demonstrates creativity across two disciplines
  • explore professional creativity by undertaking a work placement
  • respond to a brief set by a client, bringing a piece of work from conception to realisation
  • appreciate the importance of actively seeking opportunities for creativity, and be able to develop proposals and pitches
  • undertake the initial planning, research and preparation of a commission based on a client’s brief
  • complete a commission negotiated with a client
