Hospitality
The Hospitality Diploma equips learners with a broad understanding of the sector and the way in which it works. With an emphasis on practical, hands-on skills it provides a valuable taster of the wide range of opportunities and job roles that exist within hospitality. Some major topics include: customer service standards; sales and marketing; running a hospitality business; food and beverage service; food preparation and cooking; and health and safety.
The Diploma would be ideal for a learner who is particularly interested in pursuing a career as a chef, working in tourist services or holiday parks, or wishing to study hotel management. As well as exploring issues such as the importance of customer service, managing resources and setting up in business, the Hospitality Diploma also covers a range of vital life skills such as healthy eating and food safety.

Principal Learning
Principal learning develops the knowledge, understanding and skills specific to each Diplomas relevant industry sector
At Foundation level students will:
- Understand the broad context of the hospitality industry
- Know how food and beverages are prepared and served for customers
- Acquire food preparation and cooking skills across different cultures
- Understand the functional and operational areas which comprise hospitality and catering departments
- Be introduced to the principles of food safety and healthy eating
- Develop effective transferable skills for customer service, team work and communication
At Higher level students will:
- Understand the range of employment opportunities that hospitality has to offer
- Be given the opportunity to integrate new knowledge with work experience
- Gain confidence to discuss major aspects of the UK hospitality industry
- Improve skills for effective teamwork and customer service
- Be introduced to a range of legislation and regulations
- Understand hospitality strategies for increasing income and reducing costs as a means of building profit levels
- Acquire skills needed to meet varying needs and concerns of customers, including healthy eating and special diets
At Advanced level students will:
- Undertake more in-depth studies utilising research and analysis skills
- Gain knowledge of management, supervision and financial planning with an introduction to running a business
- Understand the wider aspects of the hospitality industry and how it relates to the tourism industry, including international dimensions
- Understand how to lead teams to achieve specific objectives
- Know how hospitality establishments identify customer needs and promote their products and services to meet these needs
